Inbound Receptionist Agents

Set up an AI receptionist agent that answers incoming calls on your phone number.

What an inbound receptionist does

An inbound receptionist is an AI agent that answers calls on a specific phone number you own. It can greet callers, answer common questions, collect information, book meetings, or open tickets. Configuration is per-receptionist, so you can run multiple receptionists for different lines or different purposes.

Creating a receptionist

From the inbound dashboard, click New Receptionist. Provide:

  • Setup name — your internal label.
  • Voice — which voice the receptionist speaks with.
  • Incoming phone number — the phone number it answers on.
  • Greeting script — the opening line the receptionist says.
  • Actions — the things the receptionist is allowed to do: book a meeting, forward a call, open a ticket, take a message.

Writing the greeting script

Keep it short. "Hi, this is the virtual receptionist at Anderson Dental. How can I help?" is better than a six-sentence introduction. Callers often start talking during long greetings.

Activating and deactivating

Activating a receptionist routes calls on that number to the AI worker that handles your tenant. Deactivating removes the routing. Calls that arrive while deactivated go to voicemail if configured on the number, or fail.

Getting notified about calls

You can configure SMS notifications to your staff for specific call outcomes (meeting booked, ticket opened).
